New Year

DSC_2212

HAPPY 2016! Time flew by just like my skirt that I wore this past week. It’s so strange it’s December and I had the nerve to wear the following things; skirts, slip on’s and sweaters (no coats). This winter started of very strange here in New York it felt more like fall. I took advantage however and wore my skirts and went on about my business, don’t get me wrong I love doing that but I really want it to snow. Like Hello? Snow? Where are You?

During the summer I purchased this blue suede fridge crazy looking skirt. I am beyond happy I did it’s beautiful, only disappointing thing is it’s pretty large on me although I ordered the smallest size, yikes. Eventually I will have to take it to a tailor to take off some inches, so I can where it with other tops other than sweaters as pictured. It’s getting cold so I am glad I was able to get to where this one last time before the actual cold front hits. Once again Happy New Year!

Gift Guide for Her

2 posts? In one day? What!!!
Okay as promised here’s a Gift Guide but for HER now. I have a bit of a theme going on here with the all black, but I can’t help it. I have a couple of male followers that will thank me later, so you’re welcome in advance. All of the items are under $80 with the exception of one (those booties) in the image above only reason I put them there is because look at them they look good but here’s an alternative that cost less plus I’m extremely frugal so if you’re like me I’d go with these  (similar here) looks alike only difference is your bank account won’t suffer as much. Your mom, grandma, sister, friend, anybody would enjoy.

Home Beauty 101: Avocado hair mask

If there is anything I love is being home and looking up different types of DIY’s projects whether it be home, beauty or clothing related there is something pretty fun about them and sometimes what you’re looking for is right in your home and you don’t have to go out of your way and spend money. I like this especially when it comes to beauty related things, I like to keep it quick and simple and not buy a thousand and one products have them stashed in cabinets looking dust. Nothing beats making your own stuff because you know exactly what’s going into it, and not worry if there are some unknown chemical thrown in there for thew heck of it.

With that being said here’s an avocado hair mask I’ve meaning to put up for a while now but would also get sidetracked by homework. I use this every time before washing my hair and brings such a difference and life to my sometimes dry hair. I flipping ADORE this. Maybe you will too! You’ll thank me later, well not really me but my mom, I’ll let you know why soon.

What you need:

1 half avocado
1 large egg yolk
2-3 tbsp of olive oil
honey (optional)(if you have ombre/or highlights and want it to be a brighter look; add some lemon juice).

What you need to do:

First, make sure you take the avocado before someone goes off and eats it before you even get to make the mask. Yeah, it’s happened to me like twice.

Alright, then take the half of that avocado and empty it out on a plate (make sure it’s ripe because it’s smoother and easier to mix) take a spoon and mash that bad boy up. Once that is mixed together take your egg yolk and mix it in with the mashed avocado until well combined. Lastly, take your olive oil and honey, mix it in your avocado hair mask. You’ll know it’s done until its a smooth consistency, it should be a bit thick. Place it in the microwave for about 10 to 15 seconds just to give it a little warmth and it’ll feel good, trust me.

Then, starting from your scalp, apply the hair mask deep into the scalp and work your way around your head. Once you have covered your entire head and have some left over place them on your ends OR on your face (which will leave your skin feeling smooth plus avocado is known to be anti-wrinkles helps reduce them. Place your hair into a small bun, and cover it in a shower cap (if you do not have a plastic bag works just as fine) and ten go on about your business. You can go cook, clean, paint your nails and watch some Lifetime movies (me) and do what you want and enjoy yourself. You can leave this hair mask on for hours yes hours. But if you’re not like me and want to move it along the minimum is 15 minutes to leave this hair mask sitting. When you’re done doing whatever your doing go hop in that shower. Wash the hair mask off, and then scrub your hair down with your favorite shampoo … basically do whatever you would do to wash your hair with the shampoo and conditioner all of the usual things. And THERE it’s done! Either leave it to air dry, blowdry then flat iron or do some rollers and go under the dryer for an hour (like I do) wrap it up and the next day BOOM you will be looking like a billion bucks with nice silky hair and roots 🙂 Also I can’t forget to mention, for me personally, I’ve seen growth occur faster once I cut my hair to shoulders length in the summer, so yeah it’s not only good for your hair to be nice and smooth but helps you grow it as well. Also thanks, to my mom who watches a morning show every Saturday and writes down some of the recipes they give out for your skin, hair etc … I use to think it was stupid until I tried and it actually worked.

Reasons why this mask is amazing:

Avocado is a true super food! It has many nutrients and vitamins which is good for the body that really does need it. It also serves as so many benefits for your hair and I will definitely name a few so you can see it’s not only for one specific hair type. I for one tend to have dry hair and sometimes pretty itchy and the different benefits that I have read have shown me that they would work wonders on my hair and it has. It’s a great dandruff treatment. I’ve tried this on my brother who had this issue and now I don’t even need to put any one him because his hair has totally changed. You probably read this and said “oh crap! I don’t have dry hair so now I cant do this” well guess what you’re wrong. It works for shiny hair as well the only difference is you’ll only need the ripe avocado obviously, coconut oil and a yolk. This mask will dry the hair a bit and add some volume into it. And let’s not forget about the frizzy hair it helps it keep it tame and in its place. Like I first mentioned it’s great to use as a face mask as well it helps dry, dehydrated skin. If you get into that habit of applying it this and washing it off every night before you go to bed you will feel and see such a difference on your skin in a matter of days. If you can oily skin I wouldn’t recommend this it will probably make you break out because the oil in the avocado is very absorbent and nourishing.

Some snaps of what I wore to go to my French final yesterday.

Luckily, I actually got some pictures from yesterday considering the fact I have a nasty allergy ? reaction on my right eye since early this morning. Actually it’s a good thing I took yesterday to snap some for Friday’s post. Okay so I’m currently, sitting in the waiting room in the hospital waiting on my doctor to call me in and see what is the deal with my eye, I mean I haven’t eaten kiwi’s (allergic) so it can’t be that … so is it possible that I am now allergic to something else let’s hope not. I would honestly love to show you guys but I don’t think you guys would like it so much ha.

But honestly sorry for the not so decent photos on this post. It’s absolutely freezing and I was not trying to go outside and pose until I get the nicest captures … sorry but not happening. I also really love that when I’m actually up and ready to go out snap some pictures on my look it’s freezing and I tend to go on about my business and do something else, whoops!
Not to mention my dawg on tripod .. don’t even get me started. I set up my tripod and 5 seconds later it automatically knocks down my whole camera. These are pictures as I’m trying to not run late for class, rushing as well to watch some Sportscenter and shamelessly jamming to KiD CuDi at seven in the morning.

Hopefully my neighbors do not mind, doubt it. But yesterday was one of those days I wanted to just wear a single color so why not blue, not my color at all but I was getting tired of wearing these grey and dull colors like I have been for the past couple of months.

So here you go plain and sucky pictures … I’m sorry folks. Have a good old day let’s hope they call me in soon I’ve imported, edited and written for this post and still nothing it’s been about two hours already. ugh

DIY Lip Scrub!

DSCN6384

Ever wake up to, terrible looking dry chapped lips? Because I don’t know it’s winter time? Sound familiar? If so we’re on the same boat, you are in luck because today I am going to show you one way (one) of my favorite way to exfoliate my lips with a lip scrub, but without having to do out and buying one. The thing is: I am 100% certain you have these items laying around in your kitchen cabinet somewhere trust me. This is one of those DIY’s that ARE simple that I honestly don’t have to even explain to you how to do so because I will simply tell you what you need and all you need to do is combine and you’re finished! Nevertheless, lip scrubs are very much needed on these freezing cold winter days, chapped lips simply suck and are unattractive to look at! With that being said make your own! It’s ridiculously easy and you only need things that you have.

Things you will need.

  • A small plate
  • white or brown sugar (whichever sugar you use)
  • coconut oil
  • honey
  • half lime

Mix everything together in your small plate and mix mix mix. And there you have it! If you don’t have coconut oil you can substitute olive oil. Also: Remember to apply your  lip balm after scrubbing your lip scrub off!

Once you mix it all leave it sitting on your lips for 2 minutes. Have a napkin in hand it tends to get a little messy.ess

Photo Diary: Dominican Republic

DSCN4610

Okay, so I know I’ve been gone for much of December, buuuuut because I went to the Dominican Republic for a little over 2 weeks. There’s SO MUCH to say and write about this trip that it will be impossible to end . First things first is, Dominican Republic is a beautiful place … delicious food, vibrant houses, good music and joyful people well most of the time ha. Not to mention the architecture, the land itself, is all so beautiful. I usually go every year or two and usually go during the summer but this time I went during the cooler time of the year which made a huge difference. The temp wasn’t overwhelming the first couple a days with nice breezes as you sit and rock yourself in the rocking chair, I think going during the winter is a big plus.

Started the trip in the Capital, then took off to Nizao where my family stays, Bani the next day then back to Nizao. Then, La Romana, Higuey, then back to Nizao then Saona Island then back to Nizao. The photos are in order from when I landed to the very last day of my trip which was yesterday. Not too mention I took my camera everywhere and have about over a 1,000 photos not to forget photos on my phone which adds about 500 + more. But I’ll obviously wont post them all because that’ll be overwhelming for people to continuously scroll down. So i’ll try key word TRY to narrow it down to as little as possible. There was so much good food, good people, good music, and just endless new adventures along the trip.  It was definitely a great way to spend my winter break there, not to mention weird being home. I hope you enjoy the photos, that I wish I can show all. Happy New Year!
Happy 2015

Easy Way to Clean Your Makeup Brushes

It’s finals week and needed to take a break and do a post so here it is. If you’re anything like me you have a serious problem getting up and cleaning your makeup brushes. I can get rather lazy, and completely try to forget that they need some cleaning and I’m talking weeks of no cleaning them and then I wonder when I put on makeup it goes on rather weird. But yea I did say weeks I can go with without cleaning them which can be bad as well all know and the product keeps adding on and on and on … That, right there is a big no no, because the germs and bacteria that can evolve on you brushes after using them a few times.

As you may know keeping your brushes clean helps along with maintain healthy skin because no bacteria will get to your face. For us non makeup artists, it is said to be good to clean your brushes weekly to prevent many things shadows not going on right, colors mixing and just have good skin overall. Taking care of your brushes equals them last for a long time. Hopefully these are helpful. There are also makeup brush cleaners that tend to be more on the expensive side of things and are obviously simpler and easier  to clean, the shampoo will do the same job unless you want to make sure your brushes are in tip top shape and buy some of those expensive products. Read below for my quick tips on cleaning them!

DSCN4098

Things you will need:

  • Lukewarm running water
  • Head and shoulders shampoo / or any shampoo you use that’s good quality
  • Dirty brushes
  • Small plate
  • A clean towel

DSCN4134

DSCN4123DSCN4127

  1. You’ll need to squeeze some shampoo (just a little) onto a clean small plate before dipping your brush head to it.
  2. first, you’ll need to let your brush run through the lukewarm warm for about a minute. Then dip your brush had to the shampoo.
  3. For this step make sure the palm of your hand is clean, you will swirl the head of the brush in the palm of your hand, you will start to see the color that was on the brush on your hand and sink.
  4. Then with the brush downward and your palm keep swirling until you see and feel no more shampoo of the brush. Squeeze to make sure it is clear.
  5. Lastly, lay your brushes to dry on the towel. Let them dry out for about a day, overnight.
