Photo Diary: Punta Cana
Long time no post. So it’s been a solid 3 going on 4 years where I haven’t posted consistently on my page. Terrible, I know. But over the past couple years I’ve taken trips and did not even think about posting them on my photo diary series I have on here, which you guys seem to really enjoy, thank you analytics lol. Any how, as a reminder my photo diaries on here are a collection on photos I have taken on a vacation, I don’t post all because I don’t take a whole lot on vacation because I want to enjoy it. I bring SOOO MANY BIKINIS on vacation and barely get any pictures of it because that’s the furthest from my mind. I don’t know how how people do it when they go on a vacation posting on their stories every hour, 20 thousand pictures etc, I commend you. A lot of alcohol, food and some more alcohol was consumed in this trip which explains the lack of pictures in the Motherland. Be on the lookout for my next photo diary, this week that I am gathering pictures of.
24 Things I Learned at 24
As of last week December 5th I turned the sweet ol’ 24 years. The fact that I’m 24 even thinking about it is crazy, because I still get asked for my ID for like everything, like I am getting old & time is flying. For crying out loud my little brother looks older than me. I feel like I was just in high school yesterday, now I’m just a college graduate, like what ? Now I keep thinking “Wow, I’m almost 25, meaning I’m literally almost 30, which is close to 50, which is basically 75” I need to relax on that though and enjoy 24, ha! I compiled a list of things I learned throughout my years. Although my husband laughed at my list, it’s all actually true
- For the love of God, wear your retainers
- If you have to think about it, don’t buy it
- The Lifetime Movie channel is heaven sent
- Dogs are needed in life
- Announcing your accomplishments & future plans are not for the world to know. People can be spiteful
- Be nice to people. A simple “Hi” can make their day
- Cooking home meals beat takeout
- Cleaning keeps you balanced
- Prayers work, if consistent
- Lazy days are needed
- Drinking water & minding your business makes life easier
- Don’t worry about how far along others are in life. Your different so your path will be different
- Exercise to keep healthy & active not just looks
- You can’t satisfy everybody
- Get a hobby
- Do what makes YOU happy
- Sometimes you got to say how you really feel
- Stay faithful to your hair dresser
- Bills suck
- Stop worrying about things you can’t control
- Have a taco or two or five
- Travel, work is cool and all but a break is cool too
- No one will ever do your eyebrows as good as you.
- TREAT YOURSELF
Road To Fully Natural ? Somewhat?
Ever since I was 12 years old I’ve been getting perms. My mom was fully against it and I wish I would of listened to her, till this day I keep telling her “Mom, you were right! Perms mess up your hair.” At the time I had an obsession with having silky straight hair, and begged my mom for two years straight before she gave in. Now as an adult I wish I would of never. But it happens I was young and didn’t know I should embrace my big hair. I kept getting perms religiously up until 20010-2011, when my hair was in SHAMBLES!!! I wish I had my old desktop so you all can see how THIN, dry and poor my hair looked once it was straightened. It was so bad to the point that the salon owner (who has bee doing my hair since the age of 5) stopped what she was doing and went of on the stylists whom she trusted at the time to do my hair. That stylist was basically damaging my hair slowly but surely and it showed, since my hair was long. By that point I had enough and started getting perms once a year instead of every 3 years. The first picture will be how my hair was when I first permed it, long, thick and healthy.
I was sick of perms leaving my hair lifeless, so I told myself no more perms. My last one was December 2014, before leaving to the Dominican Republic for vacation. This is because it’ll be way easier to manage and it was but that was my last last last and LAST perm i’ll ever get in my life.
After that point by no means did I ever stop using heat etc. I just stopped with the perms. I was still hitting the salon every two weeks for a wash & set. After a few months of being on a hair treatment I instantly started seeing changed in my hair as far as thickness. The curl patterns were barely there but I was still happy with the changes my hair was doing. By this point I wasn’t even thinking about restoring my curls, I just wanted my hair to not feel lifeless anymore and at least have some bounce to it when it was straightened, but it even lacked that as well. Let’s just say my hair was a hot mess but not as bad as before. Instead of being bone straight when it got wet it started getting puffier and puffier practically being a mix of an afro / straight ends. (Yeah, not cute what so ever.)
By the end of 2015/ early 2016 I moved out. I went from being in New York where there are Dominican hair salons at every corner to Kansas where it was impossible to find one (let’s just say I still haven’t found one). This alone meant big changes for my hair, I would always get it done every two weeks and now that I moved to Kansas and I had to just suck it up and do it myself. At first this was a huge head ache because I have a lot of hair and didn’t know what to do with it after I finished washing it. So I would go to Walmart spend money on Shea moisture (because I thought this was the only thing that worked for my hair type), and would let it air dry and slick it up. Four months in (April to be exact) I was frustrated and wanted my hair done, so I did some research and stumbled upon one hair place near by. I went in got my hair done by a young Caucasian female (whom was the sweetest and we talked non stop). Let me say I was NERVOUS, SHOOK, CONFUSED that she wanted to do my hair, she then assured me she had done my hair type in Atlanta for some years which calmed me down a bit. Once finished it didn’t look too bad but it was still puffy and I wasn’t thrilled but wasn’t disappointed either (sign). Then it was time to pay. They charged me $85!!!!! Holy crap I died a little inside paid and never went back. In New York I only paid $20 and it was done great. This is where I sucked it up again, and continued to do it myself and do nonsense to my hair.
Time passed on and I decided I need to straighten my hair, because I was tired of how the roots were curly and the rest was bone straight when it air dried. So in October of 2016 I bought a flat iron. And went for it (first time me using a flat iron on myself). This was the final product, not to shabby but boy my ends needed to be cut ASAP. But I knew I would be going to New York soon and would do it there.
December came around and I went to New York and cut more than just the ends. After that I kept washing it and then blow dry and flat iron straight after that every two weeks, then I slowed it down to once a month because my hair was thicker and getting longer and it took me literally hours to do.
During the summer of last year 2017, I just started to see more and more of my curl pattern since I slowly put the flat iron down and a lot of the dead hair was cut off. In the next few pictures people will go ahead and do something called “big chop” but I didn’t want that because personally I still want to straighten my hair when I wanted. But also have the curls I was starting to get.
Once 2018 was around the corner I told myself I would not straighten my hair for the whole year. From October on I didn’t straighten it up until late december. But can I just say um that no straightening thing … that ain’t happen (lol) because in February I straightened it to see the length and wow I was shook at how long it was getting. The next few pics are comparisons. It’s crazy the difference no heat for a bit can do.
My hair has grown out significantly. I still have heat damage and that is okay. By this point I won’t be like the naturals that are petrified of heat because I like to straighten my hair regardless and my sole purpose of stopping the perms was to restore my hair to get it back to the length it was and thicker again. Over the past two years I’ve used so many products but there are some that have helped out my hair starting from the shampoo and conditioner. Aussie Mega Moist Conditioner and the Renpure Conditioner have been key and using the Renpure Shampoo. As for styling I use the pink EcoStyle Gel, Cantu Leave-in Conditioner and Cantu Curl Creme. For me, the less heat the more the curls.
CURRENT APRIL 2018
Go Red
A little set back this week on posts including this one. But it’s okay many more important things had to be done still going to be consistent. As I’m listening to this Lil’ Mama interview at 105.1 Power The Breakfast Club i’m about to float through this post. The title is honestly all about the shoes I’m wearing. One word. LOVE. These I purchased from Simmi online, they are inspired from “Aquazzura” Wild Thing shoes. But to keep it real I for one was not really about to spent $800 + on shoes. No thank you. At first I saw them, saw the price but wasn’t willing to spend the money, that is where I did my research. I one day was online shopping for clothes on Lulus.com and saw them there. One that looked similar. I was freaking out. I didn’t think twice and ordered. I got them in the mail and was severely disappointed because the material, color, shape just everything was so off. So I automatically returned them. I got so upset until I randomly stumbled upon this website and saw them again and I gave it a try. And they were perfect. These are honestly one of my favorite pair of heels I own.

New Year
HAPPY 2016! Time flew by just like my skirt that I wore this past week. It’s so strange it’s December and I had the nerve to wear the following things; skirts, slip on’s and sweaters (no coats). This winter started of very strange here in New York it felt more like fall. I took advantage however and wore my skirts and went on about my business, don’t get me wrong I love doing that but I really want it to snow. Like Hello? Snow? Where are You?
During the summer I purchased this blue suede fridge crazy looking skirt. I am beyond happy I did it’s beautiful, only disappointing thing is it’s pretty large on me although I ordered the smallest size, yikes. Eventually I will have to take it to a tailor to take off some inches, so I can where it with other tops other than sweaters as pictured. It’s getting cold so I am glad I was able to get to where this one last time before the actual cold front hits. Once again Happy New Year!

Photo Diary: Columbus, GA
Last week was one of the most exciting weeks I’ve had this summer. Well, it’s a pretty easy explanation for that and it’s because I finally got to see my then boyfriend (i’ll explain why I said that later). For almost 5 months he’s been away in Georgia at basic training; the writing hand letters, speaking briefly for a couple minutes on the phone and etc are pretty much over. This was perhaps a huge milestone in his life and I’m happy I was able to make it and share the moment. There were 2 graduations I guess you can say. One was the Turning Blue ceremony, marking they’re infantry and the next day was the graduation. Georgia was freaking hot, the humidity was insane my hair didn’t last not even 10 minutes stepping out the airplane that was perhaps the only downfall. Other than that everything was pretty cool, the hotel, the foods and even the museum the National Infantry Museum, I think it’s a must see. Everyone was telling me how great it was and that I had to check it out. Luckily I was able to do so. Overall, the trip was good but like mentioned the heat was just … not nice at all. Here are some moments, I wish I could share them all … all 200 of them but I can’t and won’t, but enjoy these few that I had captured along the way.
Oh, and reason I said my then boyfriend earlier is because he’s my fianceé now ….. he did it he asked the big question. He did perhaps the best job picking out both engagement ring and band, because this ring definitely screams my names; simple, so sparkly and white gold. Absolutely freaking perfect!!!!! Now I just feel like it’s mandatory to have my nails done at all times now.
